Windstream and Earthlink
Windstream is a leading provider of Internet service in the United States. They have been installing fiber optic cables to help provide faster Internet. As a result of Windstream's constant improvement of its infrastructure, Windstream offers 1 gigabit service in select areas. That is right, 1000 Mbps Internet speed is available in some areas.
To find out if these lightning fast speeds are available in your area, go to http://fiberavailability.com/fiber-internet-providers/windstream and enter in your zip code.
Windstream has been investing in improving service in other ways also. Recently they have combined forces with Internet Industry pioneer Earthlink and Broadview Networks Holdings, Inc.
With the merger of Windstream and Earthlink, their combined national footprint was around 145,000 miles of fiber optic cables. The $1 billion transaction was completed last year.
Earthlink continues to offer Earthlink Internet services.
Windstream traces its origins back to the creation of Allied Telephone Company back in 1943. Then the company became Alltel which became Windstream when Alltel's landlines were spun off and merged with Valor Communications Group.
