Who is Earthlink Today?

Earthlink Hyperlink High-Speed Internet continues to satisfy customers with award winning service with speeds of up to 75 Mbps.

Who is Earthlink?

Back in 1994 Sky Dayton started EarthLink when he was 23 years old. Dayton he had trouble connecting his own computer to the Internet and he did some research and decided to start the Earthlink Internet Service Provider. At first EarthLink just offered 28K dial up but after creating partnerships with Sprint, Apple, CompUSA and others, Earthlink had over one million subscribers by the end of 1998. It survived through the DotCom bubble of the late 1990s and a few other trials to become one of the biggest Internet Service Providers in the US.

Fast forward twenty years. With all the other telephone companies and ISPs and media conglomerates merging and buying and selling, late last year Earthlink announced that it would be merging with Windstream. The merger was approved in February of 2017. EarthLink shareholders got a little less than one share of Windstream stock for each share of EarthLink that they already had. The value after the merger was over $1 billion.
The shareholders of Windstream were 51% owners of the new company and the shareholders of EarthLink owned 49%.  EarthLink still offers high speed, wireless and dial up Internet. They also offer web hosting and other online services. Windstream and Earthlink will be working on integrating their products over the next few months.

Earthlink - Internet of the Future

Earthlink is one of the oldest Internet Service Providers. In fact, they have almost been around as long as the Internet has. Earthlink was founded in Pasadena, CA, when 23-year-old Sky Dayton first heard of the Internet and called 411 to find out how to connect to the Internet. 411 couldn't help so Earthlink was born.
In the year 2000 Earthlink was the second largest Internet Service Provider in the US. AOL was the first. As cable and telephone companies got into the Internet business AOL and Earthlink lost dominance but last year Earthlink merged with Windstream Holdings and still provides Internet connection.
Internet speeds have progressed since the dial-up days of 23 years ago. Today Earthlink also offers DSL, Satellite, and fiber optic Earthlink Hyperlink High-Speed Internet as well as dial up. These days, Earthlink provides Internet service to over a million homes and more than 150,000 businesses.
With speeds of up to 75 Mbps, Earthlink Hyperlink High-Speed Internet continues to service their customers with award winning service.
